a collector wall, consisting of a massive south-facing, concrete wall, which is painted black and covered with a sheet of glass. An air-space runs between the concrete and the glass; the chimney effect causes the heat to rise; openings at the bottom and top of the wall allow the cold air along the floor to be circulated through the air space
